The reasoning, among the exponents of the party, is straightforward: institutional roles are not used to wage political battle, a rule has been violated. In fact, the letter from the premier and leader of FdI, the party of Delmastro and Donzelli, was read with surprise and irritation. And it has caused further stiffening: Meloni – is reflected among the managers – does not ask his parents to apologize, on the contrary he makes an official defense and then reverses the accusations, his is almost a provocation. Any possible change of course, any softening, therefore, is more difficult than it was until yesterday.

In the Pd grappling with the congress in the sections, therefore, all united behind the position expressed by the outgoing management group: the secretary Enrico Letta and the two group leaders Simon Malpezzi And Deborah Serrachiani. Gathered at lunchtime in a sort of “war cabinet”, by videoconference, to reply to the letter that Meloni entrusted to the Courier
, they immediately found the common line. That of firmness that does not involve steps backwards. So also the actions announced in the hottest days of the controversy continue. There is no parliamentary work this week, for the last week of the election campaign. But the PD motion against Delmastro has already been filed in the Chamber. It adds to that, in the same sense, presented by the M5S. The defamation lawsuits against Donzelli and Delmastro himself who accused the dem exponents who visited Cospito in prison, in statements in the Chamber and then in the media, of being on the side of terrorists and mafiosi, are about to start. The lawyers are also evaluating whether, beyond the individual complaints of the four (three deputies and a senator) who have been in Sassari prison, already ready, there are the details to file one in the name of the party “offended as a whole” .

And yet some cracks in the pd galaxy, after five days of battle with FdI, emerge. “Many discontent” both in the party and in the dem parliamentary groups, report some exponents, for the underestimation of the political opportunity to visit Cospito at a time of great tensions and protests originating from his story. “In hindsight it is easy to say that it was not appropriate,” argues those who defend the choice of the four parliamentarians, including the president of the group in the Chamber and a former justice minister. «An investigation, before going to Sassari, was an option that expert politicians should have considered», the others reply.

Those reports sent to the Ministry of Justice, which were then revealed by Delmastro to Donzelli and by Donzelli to everyone, in Montecitorio, were the fuse of the fire that is still raging.
