“It is a far-right government that is showing its true face, the one you see in Hungary or in Poland condemned just yesterday by the European Court of Justice on the independence of the judiciary”. Joseph Provenzano, dem responsible for foreign affairs of the new Elly Schlein-branded secretariat, does not send them a word in view of today’s vote of confidence in the House on the Public Administration decree which, among other measures, deprives the Court of Auditors of concomitant control over the projects of the Pnrr. An amendment which, together with the one that extends the tax shield to 2024, for the former minister of the South would make Italy slide towards an authoritarian drift: “Between democracies and authoritarianism there is a gray scale in the middle. And we cannot accept that Italy too is becoming more and more gray”, he declares in an interview with Repubblica.
For Provenzano there would be a “clear design” of Giorgia Meloni’s government, which ranges from the “compression of democratic and information spaces, intolerance of controls and attacks on the judiciary” to “discrimination on rights”. And he accuses the right wing of “commanding instead of governing, thinking they have become the masters of Italy”. It therefore ensures clear opposition from the Pd, despite the fact that the centre-left remains divided on the squeeze on the Court, with the Third Pole in favor and the remaining parties against.
