From Scajola to Sgarbi: the position of the candidates for the municipal elections in May

The presentation of the lists for the administrative offices of 14-15 May closes today. In these hours the office of aspiring local administrators will be made official to renew almost 800 municipalities, including 17 provincial capitals for almost 6 million voters involved. Among the cases to report, the commissioner in Imperia Ivan Bracco (centre-left, without M5S) will challenge the current mayor and former minister Claudius Scajola (this time supported by the united centre-right). Bracco, in his capacity as commissioner, has repeatedly investigated the current mayor.

Sgarbi leaves Sutri for Arpino

Then there is the case of Vittorio SgarbiUndersecretary for Culture of the Meloni Government, who as outgoing mayor of Sutri will not run again in the city in the province of Viterbo (the centre-right preferred the exponent of FdI Matthew Amori). However, he will run for mayor of Arpino, a town in the province of Frosinone with around 6,700 inhabitants. The undersecretary fell in love with Arpino in the middle of last winter. He happened upon it by chance, he began to walk around it: the parish priest did not recognize him and did not want to open the churches to him because it was already evening. He returned in the following weeks: it was love at first sight.

In Latina, the civic Coletta tries again

In Latina there is the case of Damiano Coletta who will make an attempt to beat the right in municipal elections for the third time. The civic exponent, already mayor of the Pontine capital twice, won the primaries of the center-left thanks to 1,628 votes – against 1,007 of Daniela Fiore, candidate of the Democratic Party, and 125 of the independent Filippo Cosignani – and will compete to fill the position mayor for the third consecutive time, the second at the helm of the centre-left coalition (this time also with the M5S). In 2016, Coletta surprisingly became the first “civic” citizen of Latina. Five years later he ran again, also supported by the Democratic Party. Again he surprise wins. But in July 2022 the Tar of Lazio partially cancels the first round vote of the previous year, finding irregularities in 22 sections, and redecreating the vote in these 22 sections. Coletta is defeated, but the votes are not enough to overturn the overall outcome in the municipality. But Coletta can do nothing, a few months later, against the decision of the centre-right (which has the majority of the council) to go to the notary and discourage the mayor. Now Coletta tries again.

The breakup of the M5S in Pomigliano

M5s storm in Pomigliano d’Arco (Naples), where, a few hours after the official presentation of the lists and candidates for mayor for the renewal of the city council, the pentastellati withdrew their support for the centre-left coalition which also includes Pd , Green Europe, Per and Active Citizenship. This was announced by the candidate for mayor himself, Marco Iasevoli, which “in the light of the changed political balance” has decided to withdraw its availability. A coalition that only yesterday evening sanctioned Iasevoli’s candidacy at the impetus of the M5s.
