From Raggi to Rampelli, everyone is campaigning against the incinerator

It was a first taste of the electoral campaign. In Largo Peter Benenson, the seat of the parliament of the 9th district of the capital – from Eur to the Ardeatina – there was a full house. The topic under discussion was one that reawakens some interest in politics among the Romans despite the parentheses. “Projects for waste plants in the municipality (including the waste-to-energy plant in Rome Capital) after the Ama board of directors gave the go-ahead for the purchase of the land in Santa Palomba”, read the agenda. In short, we are talking about a waste-to-energy plant. It is therefore inevitable not to find seats. In the audience also present a handful of Capitoline advisors of the M5s among which former mayor Virginia Raggi. “Yesterday via Pec we filed a complaint with the Court of Auditors against the incinerator wanted by Gualtieri and by the majority who support him: it’s time to put a decisive stop to this wicked decision,” said the grillina.

But more than in Eur, it seemed to be in Montecitorio. Three deputies spoke before the councilors who normally sit here: Alessandro Zanassi (Green Europe), Francesco Silvestri (group leader of the M5s in the Chamber), but above all Fabio Rampelli, vice president of the Chamber and leading exponent of FdI.

Everyone addressed the many worried and angry citizens present in the town hall parliament directly. Silvestri, for example, claimed how the M5s, with one of his amendments, tried last week to amend the law which gave mayor Roberto Gualtieri commissioner powers on waste management. “You should know: we presented an amendment to the Aiuti Ter dl to limit the possibilities of Commissioner Gualtieri by preventing him from building an incinerator, but only the Italian Left and Green Europe voted for it and it was rejected, everything can be consulted on the Chamber’s website”, he explained, providing potential voters with the alphanumeric details of the amendment.

Before him she had spoken Rampelli, the vice president of the Chamber of Fd’I, who dreams of Lazio – “If Giorgia asked me I couldn’t say no” – launched into a surreal speech all grandmother’s solutions and conspiracies: “The returnable deposit is Columbus’s egg with which everything is solved”, “An attempt has been made to stress the area of ​​Rome to create social conditions, so to speak, and induce citizens to think that the only saving solution is an incinerator”. So: “We should spend 600 million on separate waste collection, not on this maxi-stove that burns expensive materials that could be recovered”.

Statements that a leading exponent of the main party of the current government majority could not but arouse uproar. This was pointed out to Rampelli by his counterpart from the more modest assembly of the 9th municipality, thethe vice president of the municipal council (and president of the Lazio Democratic Party), Augusto Gregori: “You are part of FdI, you are in government, if you are against it, instead of coming here to advertise with your opposition, have a four-line decree issued to remove the commissarial powers that allow Gualtieri to build the plant”.
