After 23 years at Fastweb, ten of which as CEO, Alberto Calcagno has decided to resign and leave the company at the end of September 2023. The board of directors has appointed Walter Renna as his successor effective 1 October. The new appointment
Walter Renna, born in 1982, after graduating in economics from the University of Bologna and obtaining a master of science from the Bocconi University of Milan, began his professional career as an M&A consultant for Kpmg. In 2008 he joined the strategy team of Fastweb and directed it until 2018. Subsequently he moved to the role of coo and from 2021 to head of the Product design and delivery team, responsible for marketing, communication, product development and IT. From 1 October 2023 he will take office as CEO of Fastweb. I am satisfied with the appointment – adds Aeschlimann -. a solid manager with detailed knowledge in the telecommunications and technology sector and a long experience in management and marketing.
The carreer
Alberto Calcagno joined the company in 2000 as director of the strategy division, then CFO and again COO. He took over the function of CEO at Fastweb in 2013, leading to continuous increases in the customer portfolio, turnover and free cash flow, with constant growth for 38 consecutive quarters. Under his guidance, the sectors dedicated to commercial and wholesale customers recorded an increase and new lines of business have been launched, such as mobile telephony, the cloud and cybersecurity. I lived a stimulating period – he declared -. From the dawn of fiber optics in the 2000s to our age of sophisticated smartphones, fast networks and cloud data, technology and the way we communicate, both in business and in private life, have changed enormously.
