Goodbye to basic income

Legislative Decree 48, better known as the “Work Decree” was definitively approved, completing a complex and critical process. The reform was strongly desired by the Minister of Labor Marina Calderone and had to face the “rock” of the citizen’s income. From September there will be a subsidy of 350 euros per month (for a maximum of one year) for those who live in poverty and are considered employable. The change concerns the rules for job offers that the beneficiary is required to accept: the offer that refers to an open-ended employment relationship with no distance limits on national territory; the one that proposes a fixed-term contract, if the place of work is not more than 80 kilometers away from the subject’s domicile; the proposal of an employment relationship of no less than 60% of the full-time schedule; finally, the offer that proposes a salary not lower than the minimum wages established by the collective agreements. Workers with children under the age of 14 are exempt from these obligations.
