an innovative agreement recently reached between Metro Italia and the trade unions involving 4,000 people throughout Italy. An agreement that concerns not only Metro Italia, but which also extends to the employees of Metro Dolomiti. An important milestone achieved after a long journey, never interrupted even during the difficult years of the pandemic. Important progress was made at each meeting, which allowed the final result of the agreement to be reached.

Salary increases for Sundays and holidays

We have reached an important milestone, made possible thanks to the initiation of a constructive dialogue and confrontation with the trade union organizations which led us to sign the new company supplementary contract. This agreement has always had the objective of putting people first, increasing their purchasing power and strengthening the welfare system to further support the needs of Metro Italia’s 4,000 people. We have always had the ambition to build a comfortable and stimulating work environment, in which to implement our multi-channel strategy through the parallel development of the Cash and Carry, Food Service Distribution and Digital channels”. Among the main points of the agreement: a performance bonus and bonuses: a variable salary system that will allow for a bonus of up to 1,440 euros. The objectives of the performance bonus will always be updated on the basis of new economic parameters, aligned with the corporate strategy. a progressive calculation system is envisaged, accelerated and expanded with respect to the past, as well as the possibility of converting the bonus into welfare to benefit people’s purchasing power. An evolution of the surcharges for Sunday, Christmas and holiday overtime work: for Sunday work 60% up to the 14th Sunday and 75% from the 15th Sunday onwards; for the Christmas period: for the last three Sundays of December, the 75% increase will be applied to recognize the effort of employees at a particular time of the year from a social and family point of view; overtime on holidays will be paid at 160%; and the 38 hours per week will accrue in two years instead of in the four as envisaged by the national contract.

More welfare for the disabled, maternity leave and women victims of violence

The welfare system is also being strengthened to contribute to the personal and family needs of people in different age groups. In addition to the monetary amount recognized for each, which can be used on the platform dedicated to maternity/paternity; to disabled assistance; to paid leave for women victims of violence; the addition of the solidarity holiday fund is also envisaged, from September 2023 all people are provided with 200 euros in the welfare portfolio which can be spent on primary use goods, shopping vouchers, transport, education and training, health, family support services and social assistance, leisure, health care and medical expenses, retirement funds.

New hires and retirements

There will be no shortage of new hires: by 2023, 260 workers will leave and 180 will enter. The new entries will focus on profiles supporting the multi-channel strategy to 2030. On the one hand, the roles within the store will be replaced and specialists will be introduced in the departments fresh, therefore meat, fish and all departments where there is a direct relationship with the customer. Digital and telephone salesmen and hunters will also be included, i.e. professionals who have the task of looking for new customers, specialists in customer promotion, or experts in digital tools, digital payments and automatic cash machines.

40,000 hours of training for 2,500 people

The training, on the other hand, will involve 2,500 people who will do 40,000 hours of training over the next 2 years, for a number of days that varies between a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5. 70% of the planned training will be experiential, 20% in coaching with masters of the trades and 10% in both virtual and physical classrooms.
