Environment, health and industry

In the initiative promoted by the European Commission, Representation in Italy, in collaboration with Europe Direct Taranto as part of the Sustainable Development Festival promoted by Asvis, Timmermans assures: «I am a father and I am a grandfather and I do not want to sacrifice even a child for economic development . I know here in Taranto what tragedies you have experienced. There are many and this is why I want to focus on this city. And for this reason that since the beginning of my mandate I have spoken almost every month about Taranto».
According to the vice president of the Brussels Commission, «we must have the strength to rethink our industry but not to eliminate industry but to give industry a sustainable future. I ask everyone to help us do this.”

If we do it together with industry, local, regional and national authorities, we’ll get there, we’ll make it». Timmermans is optimistic and says: «I am convinced that we can demonstrate in Taranto that there is no need to abandon the rules of protection of people and the environment to give more space to industrial production. I want to demonstrate from Taranto that there is clean steel and clean and sustainable energy that gives us the electricity necessary for the industrial development of this country”.
