The next ones European elections for the renewal of the Brussels Parliament will take place between 6 and 9 June 2024. the decision was confirmed by the meeting of the permanent representatives of the member countries (Coreper), which will now only have to be made official in one of the next meetings of the EU Council.

The European Parliament is the only European institution elected directly by the citizens by universal suffrage and composed of representatives of the 27 countries who remain in office for five years. Today 705 deputies sit in the Chamber, 76 of whom are Italian, divided into seven political groups. Candidates stand for election as members of national parties, but once elected they choose to join transnational political forces. After the elections, the Parliament meets to elect the new president of the European Commission, which today Ursula von der Leyen.

The next European elections will be the first real test for the challenge between the majority in government and the oppositions, in particular between Brothers of Italy by Giorgia Meloni and the new P
Elly Schlein’s Democratic Artite.
