Elon Musk is again the richest in the world. Tesla and Space X founder surpassed LVMH founder Bernard Arnault. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk’s assets are $192.3 billion, while Arnault’s is $186.6. Musk overtook the luxury tycoon after shares of LVMH fell 2.6% in trading on the Paris Stock Exchange on Wednesday May 31 after Chinese manufacturing slowed.

Musk and Arnault have competed for first place several times this year. Arnault had overtaken Musk in December when the tech industry was in trouble, now the slowdown in the Chinese economy and the recovery of tech stocks have reversed the situation again. In 2023 Musk increased his assets by 55.3 billion dollars mainly thanks to the growth of Tesla, which had a 66% boom in one year.

The top ten

Completing the top ten in the Bloomberg ranking are: Jeff Bezos in third place with 144 billion dollars, Bill Gates in fourth with 125 billion, followed by Larry Ellison with 118 billion dollars, Steve Ballmer with 114 billion, Warren Buffett with 112 billion dollars, Larry Page with 111 billion dollars, Sergey Brin with 106 billion and Mark Zuckerberg with 96.5 billion dollars. Only 3, however, are Italians in the ranking of the 100 richest people in the world in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index: the group is in 27th place Giovanni Ferrero with assets of 43 billion, in 75th place Ernesto Bertarelli (Biotech) with 21 billion and in 78th place Gianluigi Aponte (Msc) with 20.7 billion.
