Alberto De Toni, a candidate supported by the centre-left and the third pole, is the new mayor of Udine. Once the 98 sections had been counted, De Toni obtained 52.85% of the votes, while the outgoing mayor Pietro Fontanini, from the centre-right, stopped at 47.15%.
“Now years of opposition await us – commented the loser -. I heard from De Toni and he told me that he intends to collaborate. I give him a Municipality with the accounts in place ». What went wrong? “Unfortunately in the ballot – added Fontanini – many people did not go to vote and this was the problem and therefore there is bitterness due to the absence of centre-right voters. Too bad” because for this city “we have done beautiful things without following ideologies”.
Immediate compliments from the president of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Northern League supporter Massimiliano Fedriga: «Thanking Pietro Fontanini for what he has done, with commitment and passion, in these five years at the helm of the Municipality of Udine, I wish a good job to the newly elected mayor Alberto Felice De Toni who will have the honor of governing the city.

The votes of the M5S also converged on De Toni, whose provincial coordinator comments: «Udine chooses change, looks to the future and overturns a panorama that initiates a turning point also for the Region in the hands of the center-right. We are happy for Ivano Marchiol and at the same time even more confident for a common path that we have strongly desired and believed in».
The numbers
In numerical terms De Toni, supported by the Democratic Party, Action-Italia Viva Renew Europe, De Toni mayor and Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra lists, obtained 18,576 votes. The outgoing mayor, Pietro Fontanini, supported by the lists Fontanini mayor, Civic identity, Lega Fvg for Salvini premier, Brothers of Italy with Giorgia Meloni, Forza Italia and Unione di Centro, obtained 16,573 votes.
