The social outburst of the Forza Italia candidate, who after 28 years spent uninterrupted in Parliament, will not be able to sit among the benches of Palazzo Madama

from Ch. Ma.

I have to surrender to the numbers. My seat not taken. I lost, but I don’t feel rejected, if anything I feel grown up. This is how the former minister Stefania Prestigiacomo, who was not elected to the Senate, unleashes herself on Facebook. I won 107,000,000 votes for Forza Italia in the multi-member boarding school in eastern Sicily, 3,000 fewer than the votes of the boarding school in western Sicily where the seat was taken. In my constituency the consensus of Cateno De Luca from Messina was decisive, who in eastern Sicily alone took 17% of the votes. In western Sicily, 7%. Too bad so many completely useless votes, thrown away. Votes against more than votes to build. And then there was the demagogic return of the Cinquestelle, explains Prestigiacomo. I think I did my duty – she continued – but it was not enough and obviously I am very sorry that the seat for which I fought a tenacious political battle did not take place. Tiring but a beautiful effort. Today I want to thank first of all the supporters and militants of Forza Italia Syracuse, Catania, Messina, Enna and Ragusa, with whom I lived the most beautiful and difficult election campaign that gave me so much humanity and political passion. Today a new story begins, he concludes, I remain in the field, at the service of the only party in which I played, a party that has given me so much and to which I have given so much and with which I intend to continue my commitment.

Meloni did not want it for the presidency

The Forza Italia candidate, after 28 years spent uninterrupted in Parliament, will therefore not be able to sit among the benches of Palazzo Madama. She was elected to the House in 1994, then in 2001 she was appointed Minister for Equal Opportunities, and in 2008 Minister of the Environment. Her party had nominated her for the presidency of the Region, but after Giorgia Meloni’s tweet to the contrary, her name had been abandoned in favor of party colleague Renato Schifani, which turned out to be a winning choice.
