Compared to the 2018 policies, the Democratic Party lost 140,000 votes. In the duels for the House and Senate, the center-right wins 10 to 3 and for the first time exceeds the center-left by four points

from Giorgio Bernardini

The last wall collapses. The center-right exceeds the center-left by 4 percentage points in the only Italian region in which this had never happened: in Tuscany it ends up 38.5% to 33.8%. Here the data on the first party is also unpublished: FdI, with 25.9% in the Senate, manages to oust the Democratic Party, even if by a few decimal places. Finally, it had never happened, as a consequence, that the center-left lost all single-member constituencies except for the Florentine ones, fixing the majority match at 10 to 3. FdI gained 398,246 votes in the Chamber compared to the 2018 Policies (487,339 against 89,093) and 408,166 votes in the Senate (486,422 against 78,256 four years ago). The Democratic Party, on the other hand, lost 136,978 votes in the Chamber (495,529 against 632,507 in 2018) and 122,015 votes in the Senate (485,127 against 607,142 four years ago).

The challenges for the Senate

In the Senate it ends 3 to 1 for the center-right. In the Florence-Pisa boarding school Ilaria Cucchi (SI, 40%) wins over Federica Picchi (Fdi, 29%). In the same college, the vice president of the Region Stefania Saccardi (Action + Italia Viva) stops at 12.9%. Not enough to make the center a real third pole (9.3% at the regional level): in Italy as in Tuscany the third force is in fact the 5 Star Movement (11.3% in Tuscany, elected Ettore Licheri). In the southern college, Arezzo-Siena-Grosseto, Simona Petrucci (Fdi, 42%) becomes a senator with 11 points behind the mayor of Montalcino Silvio Franceschelli (Pd, 31%), who is at stake for an interpretative quibble to be elected in the multi-member list in which candidate. On the coast Andrea Marcucci (Pd, 33%) defeated by Manfredi Potenti (38%). Finally, the northern college reconfirms the outgoing senator of FdI, Patrizio La Pietra, re-elected with 43% of the votes compared to 29% of the contender of the Democratic Party Anna Graziani.

The challenges for the Chamber

The Florentine fort consecrates the councilor for the budget of Palazzo Vecchio Federico Gianassi (Pd) and the former mayor of Campi Bisenzio Emiliano Fossi (Pd). However, the latter collects a more narrow victory, also the result of the internal accident: the Municipality that he led until last month punished him in the polls, making the center-right excel in his fields. For the rest, only defeats: Andrea Romano gave in for a handful of votes to the force worker Chiara Tenerini in Livorno where FdI breaks through the wall by 20%. In Siena-Grosseto, the Tuscan coordinator of the Melonians’ party Fabrizio Rossi (43%) leads the former governor Enrico Rossi (31%) by 12 percentage points. No match in Arezzo, where the outgoing senator of the Lega Tiziana Nisini affirms herself on the leader of the Pd group in the Region Vincenzo Ceccarelli. Same story in Pisa: here the Northern League player Edoardo Ziello (41%) beats the dem Stefano Ceccanti (33%). Prato-Pistoia-Mugello will have Erica Mazzetti as its representative: 40% against 33% of Tommaso Nannicini (Pd). Also the Melonian Riccardo Zucconi in Lucca and the Northern League player Elisa Montemagni in Massa who defeated Martina Nardi (Pd).

The challenges in the price lists

The excellent victim of the price lists in Tuscany is the regional coordinator of Forza Italia Massimo Mallegni: in the plurinominal for the Azzurri – who score 5.7% – only Deborah Bergamini wins. A seat also for the League (6.4% in Tuscany), which elects the Tuscan organizational manager Andrea Barabotti. Also in this race FdI is the master: Giovanni Donzelli, Chiara La Porta, Francesco Michelotti, Alessandro Amorese go to Montecitorio. In any case, the dems Laura Boldrini, Marco Furfaro, Simona Bonaf, Dario Parrini, Marco Simiani and Lorenzo Zambini, in addition to the coordinator of Art 1 Arturo Scotto, will be elected from the price lists. As mentioned, the election of Franceschelli remains in the balance. For the M5S Riccardo Ricciardi and Andrea Quartini go to the Chamber; Renzianissimo Francesco Bonifazi for the Action center and Iv scatter.

Cases in the municipalities

Not only Campi Bisenzio. Piombino, Capalbio, and Stazzema also join the club of apparent contradictions in the municipalities. In the city where the FdI regasification terminal, which governs it, should land, it is 4 points below the Tuscan average and behind the Pd, which wins the contest. The opposite would also have been said of the outcome in the former radical chic capital of the Tyrrhenian coast, Capalbio, where Fdi even hits 42%. The Melonians are curiously the first party also in Stazzema, where in 1944 one of the bloodiest Nazi-fascist massacres took place: the center-right took double the votes of the center-left there.
