The former governor beaten in the “challenge of the Reds”. Ceccarelli in Arezzo also loses with 20 thousand votes, he will return to the Pd group leader in the Region

One the tsunami hit the ruling class of the Tuscan PD on Sunday. Who seems to have a certain inclination toself-renewal. About ten years ago Enrico Letta was preparing to become Prime Minister. On 13 December 2012, the mayor of Florence Matteo Renzi began his march to conquer the Democratic Party by announcing his candidacy in the party primaries. And the Tuscany Region was led by Enrico Rossi. The old ruling class of the years of the Olive Tree – Vannino Chiti, Claudio Martini and Leonardo Domenici – was now behind us. Filed. The new leaders of the Democratic Party had a season of national glory, they ruled Italy and Tuscany, but their political parable lasted less than ten years and shattered on Sunday on the tumultuous wave of Giorgia Meloni’s success. Letta has announced that he will not be re-nominated as secretary at the next congress. Renzi flew to Japan for the funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, his political creature, built with Carlo Calenda, did not reach the 10 percent target. Enrico Rossi lost the match against FdI’s Rossi, Fabrizio, in the college of Grosseto and Siena. He has staked everything on the identity of the left that follows the chain that leads from the PCI to the PDS, the DS and finally the Democratic Party. But he did not serve to call to arms those who have taken refuge in abstention in recent years.

But it is an entire class of center-left politicians to emerge defeated at the polls. Defeated the Arezzo Vincenzo Ceccarelli, 62 years old, champion of preferences, one who knows his territory inch by inch but it was not enough: he lost the challenge with the Northern League player Tiziana Nisini by about 20 thousand votes. Which does not seem to have had great merits because the League of 42.9 percent won by the center-right took only 7.6 while the Brothers of Italy exceeded 28, two points more than the Democratic Party. Ceccarelli returns to being the regional leader of the Democrats and perhaps he could be tempted, in 2025, to run for mayor of Arezzo. The other losers of the center-left are all exponents of the Riformista Base, the current of former Renzians who in 2019 however said no to Renzi and Italia Viva and remained in the Democratic Party. Their leader in Tuscany is Luca Lotti slain by Letta. The others, on the other hand, were excluded by the voters. The defeat of Martina Nardi, 49 years old, in the college of Massa and Versilia it was discounted, over 20 thousand votes in fact separated her from the center-right rival. She, a former senator of Sel, in 2015 arrived in Massa none other than the former minister Maria Elena Boschi to deliver her the card of the Democratic Party. Rossi and the then regional secretary Dario Parrini can also be seen in the photo of the ceremony. Of the quartet only Parrini was re-elected in Tuscany, Boschi re-elected but outside the region, while Rossi and Nardi were rejected. It’s only been seven years since that photo.

It was instead a surprise was the defeat of Andrea Romano, 55, historian, deputy since 2013, in the college of Livorno who on paper was credited as safe for the center-left; she lost only by 3,000 votes against Chiara Tenerini but her defeat burns a lot in the Democratic Party. As well as that of Andrea Marcucci, 57, former leader of the dem group in the Senate, in the senatorial college of Livorno, Pisa, Viareggio, Massarosa and Camaiore. Marcucci began political activity in the Pli, in whose ranks he became a member of parliament in 1992. Thirty years later, perhaps his bitterest defeat. His future and that of the reformists is a puzzle: they will fight at the next congress of the Democratic Party perhaps focusing on Stefano Bonaccini as the new secretary or, this indiscretion also turns, they will bring bricks to the construction of a third pole stronger than the 7.73 won on Sunday. and Italia Viva. Pistoia, a former red province increasingly whiter, loses the political representation of Caterina Bini, 47, parliamentarian since 2013, who has not passed into the proportional: “Many mistakes have been made in the Democratic Party, starting with the alliances,” he argues on social networks. And she announces that she won’t give up. In the folds of the bitterness of the defeated you seem to grasp the desire halfway between the reckoning and the refounding of the Democratic Party.
