Elderly, Meloni: “Heart of society and heritage of values”. And the government signs the “old age pact”

With the bill approved today by the Council of Ministers, the Government signs a “Pact for the Third Age” and lays the foundations for the overall reform of policies in favor of the elderly and against their marginalization. There are many interventions that will be implemented from a health, social, welfare and relational point of view, with the aim of taking care of the elderly at 360 degrees and responding to all their needs and requirements. With this provision, the Government provides for the strengthening of home care with individualized projects and thus to avoid the ‘parking’ of the elderly in health facilities; alongside the economic instruments already envisaged for non-self-sufficiency, it combines a package of social-health services interventions; encourages new forms of co-housing; provides more services and aids for situations of greater fragility; pays particular attention to caregivers and palliative care is finally given greater diffusion. The elderly are not only part of our families, but they represent the very heart of society and a precious heritage of values, traditions and knowledge for the nation. Taking care of the elderly means taking care of all of us.
