Green transition, the role of biofuels and e-fuels

In the future of green mobility there are not only battery-powered cars. Given the ban on petrol and diesel engines proposed by the European Commission for 2035, an important role will be played by biofuels, biofuels in English. It is fact of fuels obtained from the treatment of organic residues of vegetable or animal nature. They can be solid, liquid or gaseous and are produced from biomass. They range from brown sugar to palm oil to corn. They fall into the category of renewable sources because they are carbon neutral: it does not mean that they do not produce C02 in combustion but rather that their combustion does not produce excess CO2. To date, the main biofuels can be divided into four types based on the production methods: bioethanol, biodiesel, biomethane and biohydrogen. But let’s see the main characteristics of these energy sources which, in the context of the green transition, could (in part) save the old car.
