The s after tensions. Salvini: Same spirit of security. Opposition on the barricades

The Senate approves. After almost two months of discussions and some surprises, yesterday Palazzo Madama has given the green light to the so-called Cutro decree. The most satisfied seems Matteo Salvini, who somehow signs the decree: Recover the spirit and effectiveness of what I had done as Minister of the Interior, remedying serious distortions introduced by the left.

In short, the one fired yesterday by the Senate, in the reading of the minister in Transport, it would be the re-edition of the yellow-green government security decrees, which the League has never hidden that it wants to recover. And perhaps for this very reason the journey was probably a little bumpier than expected. With FdI on a narrow path: don’t give Salvini the point without annoying his own electorate, which has positions on immigration issues that overlap with those of the Northern League. With the Quirinale very careful not to allow any grammar mistakes with respect to the Constitution and international agreements. Not for nothing, in Fratelli d’Italia, the reading of the Cutro decree as a re-edition of the Salvini decrees is not very shared: If we had done as the League wanted – observes a senator – the decree would have been sent back to us within an afternoon.

The vote holds no surprises92 if 64 no, despite the twists and turns of the first day of debate and the dizzying pace of the debate on the amendments. In addition to the restriction of the special protection, the decree provides for the strengthening of the hotspots, the assignment of the management of the Lampedusa center to the Red Cross, the strengthening of the maritime transport of migrants, some limitations on the reception of Retesai managed by local authorities. According to Francesco Boccia (Pd), an entirely ideological measure that does not give answers to tragedies such as that of Cutro and does not provide any government strategy to deal with a structural phenomenon.

Now, it’s up to the House. The decree expires on May 9, but the hypothesis of a vote of confidence continues to be the bet on. To avoid misunderstandings but also because in those days the Def, the Economic and Financial Document, will arrive in Parliament. It is better to avoid distractions, also because an important European game is opening up.

Indeed, the European Parliament approved yesterday the mandate to negotiate with the Council on some packages, including the crucial one on asylum and migration management. In essence, the regulation that should arise from it will establish how states and the Union will have to interact to manage the immigration issue, from the revision of the Dublin criteria to binding solidarity with countries subject to migratory pressure. The temptation to reject everything, not only for the Italian right, is strong. But for the right-wing government, it’s a little more difficult.

Meanwhile, in the field, the police detained two smugglers after the disembarkation of 55 migrants from the ship Emergency life supportin Marina di Carrara.
