Covid investigation, Fontana indignant at Crisanti’s words: “A microbiologist expert on insects. The of him are inferences ”

The president of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana is “outraged by Crisanti’s words” relating to the investigation by the Bergamo court into the management of the epidemic in Val Seriana. Andrea Crisanti, enlisted in the ranks of the Senate for the Democratic Party since September, has in fact drawn up the maxi expert report for the Orobic judges which allowed the investigation to be closed by entering the former prime minister Giuseppe Conte, the former health minister, in the register of suspects Roberto Speranza, the president Fontana and the former councilor for Welfare of Forza Italia Giulio Gallera and others. “I was indignant – he adds – that Crisanti claims that theories and inferences resulting from personal assessments of him (of someone who, as Professor Palù had defined him, is a microbiologist expert on insects), should become the subject of a trial”. The Northern League governor continues: “I ask if there was at the time a directive or an indication that required making one choice rather than another”, alluding that there were no clear indications on what to do. “Even today, there are many things we don’t know about Covid,” he explains. Then he adds that “in that period everything that needed to be done was done on the basis of the experience and knowledge gained”. Fontana still tries to distance himself from criticism: “It’s not only I who made this consideration but also the European Commission. They said we had behaved correctly, even to be taken as a model”.

The Lombard president also dwelt on the hottest political issue of these days: the formation of the new junta after the victory in the regional elections on 12 and 13 February last: “Between Wednesday and Thursday the names of the assesosri”, he assured, explaining that the meeting final will be held in Rome, presumably also in the presence of the leaders of its other majority parties (Fratelli d’Italia and Forza Italia). A solution to resolve the dilemma on the appointment of the former head of the Civil Protection (a man close to the League) could be to unpack the key Department of Health and Welfare. But Fontana niche: “It is the only issue on which there are still some reflections to be made. Many motivations go in one direction, many in the other. But since there is no opposition between allies, it will be a choice based solely on what is more appropriate”. On the autonomy and on the possibility that as president he maintains the delegation in the Regional Council he opens up the possibility: “It is certainly a hypothesis, but also having the support of a technical councilor who participates more than me in all the meetings could be useful”, he concludes .
