«Cospito, non-alarming conditions». The “Omega plan” for hospitalization – Corriere.it

The “escort” is ready to leave twenty-four hours a day. The “reclamation” of the route was entrusted to the police or carabinieri a few minutes earlier. And then two cars from the penitentiary and a 118 ambulance leaving the Opera prison headed for the San Paolo hospital.

Eight kilometers, about ten minutes with sirens blaring to cross the southern suburbs of Milan. In jargon they call it “Plan omega” is the transfer of a prisoner to the 41 bis from prison to hospitalization. It is almost routine, albeit in the highest security measures. It was also activated for Riina and Provenzano. And today the “Omega plan” could be the immediate solution to the impasse of the Cospito case, the anarchist who has now reached day 110 of hunger strike. His conditions are described as “non-alarming” and the magistrates of the Surveillance Tribunal, headed by Giovanna Di Rosa, are in “constant contact” with the doctors. Several times a day, the doctors check the vital parameters: weight, pressure and the blood test every morning to establish the electrolyte values. «Although the patient is underweight after a strong and rapid weight loss, the parameters remain within the limits».

Cospito is still compatible with detention, albeit within Opera’s Sai (Intensified Assistance Service). He moves, walks, talks, appears lucid. Drink only liquids, sugar and salt. Despite the declaration signed by Cospito in which he says he does not want to be force-fed, in the event of fainting, illness or more serious pathology, the doctors would trigger the transfer to the hospital (which has rooms for the 41 bis) and proceed to treatment lifesaver. He including force-feeding. The Compulsory Medical Treatment (Tso) procedure would be activated ex officio, as happened with other prisoners for self-harm or refusal of treatment: “The State has the duty to protect the life of the prisoner, even against his will”.

While the political tension does not decrease, the protests of the anarchist world multiplied: some repeaters were sabotaged in the Alessandria area on the border with Liguria and written on a subway train in Milan. But the attention of the investigators, as well as on the always hot front of the squares, is focusing on the prison world. At the moment no welds have emerged between the anarchist and the imprisoned bosses. But there is curiosity and hope from the convicted mafia bosses because the battle of Cospito reaches its objective: to abolish the hard prison and above all the life imprisonment impediment, the “4bis” of the penitentiary system, which excludes any benefit for prisoners. In Opera the battle is even more heartfelt than the one against the hard prison. But internally there have been no initiatives of solidarity with Cospito, such as the beating of the bars. Nor have the relatives of the inmates given support, or particular publicity, to the anarchists’ demonstrations in recent days.
