Cospito must remain at 41 bis – Corriere.it

The anarchist Alfred Cospito
in hunger strike for over 100 daysmust remain at 41 bisthe harsh prison regime.

This was established by the Minister of Justice Charles Nordioevidently believing that its social danger still exists.

The minister has rejected the request for revocation advanced by the lawyer Flavio Rossi Albertini, defender of the detainee, who received a communication from the ministry. The 41 bis was ordered on 4 May last year by the then Minister of Justice Martha Cartabia for four years.

The national anti-mafia prosecutor Giovanni Melillo had sent an opinion to the minister in which he explained that compared to May 2022, when the anarchist was subjected to the differentiated regime provided for by article 41 bis, some things have changed – and therefore that decision could be reviewed without negotiations n yielding by the State, but the result of a weighted assessment of the real need for that special measure.

The Attorney General of Turin had instead expressed itself clearly in favor of maintaining the 41 bis.

According to the National Anti-Mafia Directorate, the social dangerousness of the prisoner has not changed, which indeed remains undoubted. There has rather been an evolution of the anarchist-insurrectionist phenomenon, on a national and international scale, in ideological and strategic communication, which must be considered to establish whether the messages launched by the alleged leader are so relevant and decisive as to seal him in hard prison.

The new reality appears to be oriented towards a decisive multiplication of documents and tools for ideological elaboration and of the decision-making channels of the consequent violent initiatives, writes the Dna; therefore – it seems to understand – not excluding Cospito from this circuit with the most drastic measures that can be thought of to eliminate external dangers.
