Cospito, here are all the charges against the anarchist

On 22 November last year, ten days before the car of the Italian diplomat Susanna Schlein was burned in Athens, the Digos of Turin had informed the judicial authority that the Fai-Fri were fully operational. The occasion was the proceeding resulting from the complaint of the prisoner Alfredo Cospito against the 41 bis. A note was sent from the Police Headquarters of the Turin capital listing a series of anarchist actions: the latest, the explosive package to Leonardo’s CEO, Alessandro Profumo, in Rome, claimed by the ‘Fai-Fri Masetti Brigade’ and dedicated to Cospito: “Take him out of hard prison or you’ll have to start washing the blood.”
Cospito considered the engine of Fai
According to the investigators it was not just a question of solidarity with the fellow prisoner. Cospito is considered the driving force behind Fai, which he allegedly invented about twenty years ago by modifying the theories on “direct action” of a historic exponent of anarchism, Alfredo Maria Bonanno: a “horizontal”, “informal” network of ” cells” scattered around the world and made up of activists who don’t even know each other but who share the model of struggle. In the papers of the proceedings, he is attributed «a top role» which he also exercises from prison, placing himself as a «point of reference for the «free associates» to whom «indicate programmatic lines and objectives to hit».
Messages sent out of prison
Proof of this, according to the investigators, are the messages he sent out of prison (where he has been since 2012) and then appeared on “clandestine brochures” or area sites, the intercepted sentences, the clues that emerge from various investigations. The Digos mentions the scoop of a sector magazine, “Vetriolo”, which between 2018 and 2019 presented in three episodes an interview-dialogue with Cospito, at the time imprisoned in Ferrara (on 26 May 2020 the prison director communicated which was never authorized). The anarchist spoke of the need to “live the revolution immediately, with violence, without compromise”, explaining that “terrorism is a practice that anarchists have always used” and that parcel bombs are “part of the ‘tradition'”.
The refusal to call himself an ideologue
Analysts also read in Cospito’s words a “decisive criticism of the refusal of a certain insurrectionalism to strike people” and “towards those who dedicated themselves exclusively to sabotage”. But the anarchist does not accept the label that is sewn on him. On December 5, in Turin, during the trial in which he risks life imprisonment, he took the floor to reiterate that “from prison I continued to write and collaborate in the anarchist press”; but he never claimed to want to be an ideologue or an orchestra conductor. His lawyers have repeatedly stated that it is impossible to trace a link between the articles and the attacks. It is Cospito himself, in some interviews of which traces can be found among the papers of an investigation in Perugia, who underlined that “no one takes into consideration” what he says.
