Two hours of interrogation. Two hours of confrontation with the magistrates of Rome during which he reiterated that he had not “committed any wrongdoing, no revelations” and that the act at the center of the investigation “was not classified”. This is how undersecretary Andrea Delmastro defended himself, listened to by the prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi and by the deputy holders of the file which sees him under investigation for disclosure and use of official secrecy for the affair relating to the intervention in the Chamber of the Vice President of Copasir Giovanni Donzelli on the matter of the anarchist Alfredo Cospito, who has been on hunger strike for over 100 days to protest against the 41 bis law imposed on him for four years.
Delmastro crossed the gates of Piazzale Clodio around 11 a.m. in the car with the escort who had been with him for several days. In recent days, the magistrates listened to the head of the Dap, Giovanni Russo and the heads of the Mobile Operations Group (Gom) of the penitentiary police as people informed on the facts, who also made available to the investigators a series of documents of a technical nature on the rules that define the mobility of internal documents. And it is precisely on this aspect that the work of the prosecutors is concentrated, who have lined up a series of pieces to ascertain the existence of administrative secrecy which would therefore make them undisclosed. Delmastro is currently the only one entered in the register in the investigation. Donzelli’s position could remain that of a person informed about the facts and it is not excluded that in this capacity he could be summoned to Piazzale Clodio. The opposition has once again called for the resignation of Donzelli and Delmastro.

According to Minister Nordio, what Donzelli said was part of “a summary file of the central investigative unit of the Penitentiary Police (NIC) not covered by secrecy” and “there are no formal additions of secrecy nor further different classifications on the file”. “The addition of the words ‘limited disclosure’, present on the transmission note of the file – communicated the head of the via Arenula dicastery in recent days – represents a wording that goes beyond the subject of state secrets and secrecy classifications and excludes that the transmission is comparable to a classified act, since it is a mere internal administrative practice in use by the Dap starting from 2019, not regulated at the level of primary standardisation”.
Cospito: defense challenges Nordio provision on 41 bis
Meanwhile, Cospito’s defender filed with the Surveillance Court of Rome the deed in which he challenged Nordio’s provision which rejected the request for revocation of the 41 bis presented by the lawyer Flavio Rossi Albertini at the beginning of January. In motivating his “no”, the minister stated that the “captive’s ability to direct the struggle initiatives of the anarcho-insurrectionist galaxy towards ever more relevant strategies and objectives” remains unchanged. For the defenders, the health conditions of the 55-year-old are getting worse day by day. Cospito, currently hospitalized in the San Paolo hospital in Milan, according to the lawyers, has difficulty taking supplements and they deny that he has resumed eating: his stomach, according to the defenders, is unable to metabolize anything.
Threats against Nordio and the alert for anarchist sit-ins
“In the last few hours, Minister Nordio has been threatened with death and the headquarters of the Italian Representation to the EU in Brussels have been defaced with writings praising Cospito. Solidarity with the Keeper of the Seals and the staff of the headquarters. The State is by their side and will not back” was the comment of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Twitter, while the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto thundered: “Stop minimizing. We need to be vigilant. But the State and the government are not intimidated”. Everything is already in place in the capital to avoid any risk of unrest in view of the three sit-ins organized in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito which will take place in Campo dè Fiori, Largo Argentina and Piazza Trilussa. For this reason, security levels have been raised in sensitive places in the capital, where only two weeks ago there were clashes in the suburbs between police and demonstrators in another procession of anarchists against the 41 bis.
