The choice of the prosecutor’s office on cases since 2017. The mayor: do not discriminate against children

Yesterday the House was discussing the bill on the surrogate motherhood is a universal crime
while outside the Chamber, in Padua, the case of the transcripts on the municipal registers of children of same-parent couples exploded. The Public Prosecutor’s Office contested all the documents. Thirty-three cases, in total, or all those that the mayor of Padua, Sergio Giordani of the Democratic Party, has made valid starting from 2017.

The mayor transcribed the children of two mothersor children born with heterologous fertilization which in Italy is allowed, yes, but only to heterosexual couples. Yesterday’s appeals caught the mayor off guard. I have been recording these children in the municipal registers since 2017. And every time I have always promptly communicated to the Padua prosecutor’s office after each act without ever having any counter-arguments.

If after the appeals of the Public Prosecutor’s Office the deeds are annulled, only one of the two women would have parental rights. One of these acts has already been annulled by the court. Such a decision not only has repercussions on social life, but also on one’s identity, until proven otherwise, a fundamental right, explained one of the two mothers. And he added: I wonder how a court of a State that professes the protection of minors as a priority can exclude that a six-year-old girl enrolled in primary school can accuse a change of surname, a brother and a mother who in form stop to be family. The mayor of Padua against that decision, clearly: I do not accept the thought that there are children who are discriminated against right away, and as soon as they are born, in their fundamental rights, he commented again adding: There is a very serious legislative vacuum with respect to which Parliament should legislate but has not done so up to now, many fellow mayors also from different political parties have asked for it in a loud voice.

Yesterday Parliament was legislatingnot on the issue of transcriptions, but on the law on surrogate motherhood that the government majority has decided to transform into a universal crime, i.e. to punish those pairs of parents who go abroad to do this practice, which is already prohibited in Italy according to law 40 of 2004. after the general discussion in the hall and Carlona Varchi, Brothers of Italy, the first signer of the proposal aims to close the provision in the Chamber before the summer closure of Parliament.

Yesterday’s debate was heated, into which the controversy surrounding what was happening in Padua descended. The first to be scandalized was Emma Bonino, +Europe, together with Riccardo Magi: Thirty-three birth certificates, from 2017 to today, contested by the Padua prosecutor’s office. Not 33 pieces of paper, but 33 children. This is what the homophobic state of this government produces which passes over the bodies and feelings of children and their families to impose a single family model.

Alessandro Zan, rights managers in the secretariat dumbfounded. The decision of the Padua prosecutor’s office is a cruel and inhumane decision, a direct consequence of the government’s persecutory policy against rainbow families. These children will be orphaned of a mother by decree.
