Conte attacked by a no vax: the former prime minister hit in the face in the square in Massa

Upon arriving in the square in Massa for an electoral event, M5S leader Giuseppe Conte began the customary handshake among the crowd that had gathered. The No Vax, approaching and pretending to want to shake his hand, then hit him on the face starting to rail against the containment and protection measures introduced during the pandemic emergency. The attacker was removed by the police. “Dissent is legitimate, but this violent demonstration goes beyond the democratic context,” the pentastellato president later declared.

«When you assume a government responsibility – said the former prime minister – difficult decisions are made in moments of great difficulty for the whole country, as happened during the pandemic. You cannot please everyone even though you work for the good of all. The gentleman who attacked me, who is a convinced no vax, demonstrated with his violent gesture that this type of drift is done by irresponsible people. If we had followed their instructions, we would probably be a completely destroyed community today”.

Meloni: solidarity with Conte, dissent must be civil

The solidarity of the other political forces was immediate. Starting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni: «I express solidarity with the president of the M5s, Giuseppe Conte. All forms of violence must be condemned without hesitation. Dissent must be civil and respectful of individuals and political groups.”

Schlein: solidarity with Conte, violence is cowardice

«I am close to Giuseppe Conte – declared the secretary of the Pd Elly Schlein – and I express my solidarity with him and that of the whole community of the Democratic Party for the aggression suffered today in Tuscany. By using violence one does not affirm one’s own reasons but only one’s cowardice”.
