Chinese police stations in Europe, Von der Leyen: “Unacceptable: I’m worried” – Corriere.it

On the sidelines of the meetings during her day in Milan, after the homage to Mario Monti at Bocconi University, the president of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen briefly interrupted the series of official appointments to respond to the Corriere della Sera on an issue that particularly worries you as president of the EU Commission: openness, reported for the first time since Sheetof Chinese police stations in many large European cities – including Milan – to monitor and influence Chinese residents abroad.

President, what was your reaction to the revelations about Chinese police stations in the European Union?
“I am deeply concerned by these reports of Chinese police stations undercover in the Union territory. The European Commission condemns any interference in the sovereign territory of EU member states. If these reports are shown to be true, it would be unacceptable for us that any third country exercises any form of extraterritorial jurisdiction in the territory of member states of the European Union without the agreement of the latter”.

What can the EU do about it? Are there any steps to be taken at European level?
“This is an issue that concerns the national sovereignty and national security of the member states. However, given its importance, I have asked Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson to raise the issue at the next Council of Interior Ministers of the European Union, which is scheduled for tomorrow.’
