MILAN. No more registrations of children born to same-sex couples in Milan. After an attempt at resistance, mayor Beppe Sala was forced to step back due to the circular from the Prefecture which implements the indications of the Minister of the Interior.

Thus Milan, among the avant-garde cities in terms of transcripts of children born to same-parent couples, surrenders to the stop despite the courageous step a few years ago in wanting to proceed in the absence of legislation on the subject. The directives came from the Prefect Renato Saccone pushed by the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi. In the circular that Saccone sent to Palazzo Marino, but also to the Milanese Public Prosecutor’s Office, it is also specified that recordings “are not permitted” but that since the law is not clear, “whenever there are cases of transcription of deeds that do not comply with current legislation , it will be necessary for the Offices to report to the Public Prosecutor’s Office”.

Yesterday the mayor could not help but surrender – for now – but first wanted to meet the “rainbow” families and their representatives, explaining the difficulty to them. However, Sala announced that he will not give up and warned the government: “It will become my political battle with the executive.”

The criticisms of the prefect’s circular came punctually from the oppositions: «In the days in which the European Policies Commission of the Senate is discussing the EU Regulation which requires that the rights of same-parent families be recognized in all Member States, the Ministry of the Interior orders the Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala to stop the registrations in the registry office of families with two fathers or two mothers», thunders from the Pd Alessandro Zan, first signatory of the bill against homotransphobia. «These are unspeakable pressures that confirm the hostility of the Meloni government against the rights of the Lgbtqia+ community. The European Union is also asking Italy to take steps towards full equality for all citizens and the government responds with actions worthy of Orban’s Hungary », he adds.

«The mayor of Milan had to give in to the pressure of the Meloni government and in the end the decision came painful and unjust. He informed us that he will block the transcripts of foreign birth certificates of children with two fathers and the formation of Italian birth certificates with two mothers, as guaranteed in recent years in the Lombard capital”, explained the president of “Rainbow Families”, Alessia crosses.

«We learned the news with bewilderment, aware of how much this government is working to remove any minimum right of citizenship from same-parent families in Italy. Sadly, this news is coupled with the Italian government’s decision to reject the possibility of a European certificate of filiation, the one that would allow the children of same-sex couples to have their rights recognized throughout Europe», adds Crocini, also explaining that the boys and girls with two mothers and two fathers already exist in Italy, «ministers Piantedosi and Prime Minister Meloni accept it. Every day they go to school, enter pediatric studies, play in parks and sports fields, attend music classes, like all their peers, without having the rights of all their peers. This situation is not worthy of a civilized country and we wonder when this injustice will be remedied by a common sense law that reflects reality”.

In recent months, the Prefect’s circular was triggered by the request of a local center-right politician who had turned to the Prefect on the basis of the summer controversies triggered by the culture manager of FdI, Federico Mollicone after Mayor Sala’s decision to proceed with the recognition of the homoparenthood.
