The additional indemnity serves to balance the accounts with that of the commission presidents, given that the group leaders perform “relevant institutional functions”. The commissioner of the Chamber Paolo Trancassini (FdI) explains that the indemnity has been introduced «without foreseeing any increase in spending for the House budget of deputies, not even a cent”. But it will be “taken from the contribution that is paid to the parliamentary groups”. Silvestri takes the credit for it: «Thanks to the commitment of the M5S we have avoided expenses borne by the Italians. The alternative proposal, which we firmly opposed, provided for costs to be borne by the Chamber and therefore by the citizens”.

The resolution reads that from 2024, the “office indemnity” chapter will be “increased by 267,230.40 euros per year”. Coverage will be provided with a “corresponding reduction in the allocation of the chapter Contribution to parliamentary groups”.
