Catania, Enzo Bianco tries again: “I’m running for mayor with a civic project”

Catania is currently administered by an extraordinary commissioner because the center-right mayor Salvo Pogliese, who defeated Bianco in the elections in 2018, was suspended under the Severino law and subsequently resigned. Now the leader of the Liberal area of ​​the Democratic Party, condemned in 2020 by the Court of Auditors for having “contributed to the financial instability of the Municipality”, has announced his candidacy with “a truly civic project”. «I took this decision – he explains – with the awareness that, despite the current serious situation, Catania, destroyed and rebuilt many times in its thousand-year history, has the strength, potential and energy to recover. And never like today must these energies be across the board, expressions of a commitment that goes beyond belonging, without the tactics that often distinguish this phase. That’s why – adds Enzo Bianco, protagonist, in the early 90s of the successful administrative season defined as the “Catanese spring” – I am applying with a great project, strong and solid, which in recent months was born and developed thanks to numerous interlocutions. A truly civic project, certainly not against the parties, towards which I have the utmost respect and which they can, if they wish, join in this challenge. Developed and will develop using the best that the city can offer in every sector (productive, trade union, professional, associative, cultural) beyond the political alignments». Then Bianco launches «an appeal to the political forces of reformist, progressive and moderate inspiration, and to those who in the past have made different choices than mine but understand that the future of the city comes first”, but “also to the personalities who have given their willingness to commit themselves to the redemption of the City, to join forces”. «We can’t waste any more time – concludes Bianco – it is necessary to intervene in a serious, rigorous and competent manner.
