With 206 votes in favour, 124 against and 5 abstentions, the Chamber granted confidence to the government placed on the decree law for the construction of the bridge over the Strait of Messina. The session will continue with the examination of the agendas, while for tomorrow at 10.30, with the beginning of the explanations of vote at 9, the final vote on the measure is expected, which will then pass to the examination of the Senate. The decree revises the structure and governance of Stretto di Messina spa, entrusting the majority stake (51%) to the Ministry of Economy and Finance which exercises the rights of the shareholder in agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport . The remaining share of the capital is attributed to Rfi, Anas and the regions of Sicily and Calabria. The Board of Directors will be made up of five members: two appointed by the MEF in agreement with the MIT, who respectively hold the position of chairman and chief executive officer; one designated by the Calabria Region; one designated by the Region of Sicily; one designated jointly by Rfi and Anas.

The cost node

The latest Economic and Financial Document states that 14.6 billion euros will be needed for the work, of which 13.5 for the bridge and 1.1 for the railway works. The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Edoardo Rixi, explained that the total cost of the work – established with the reformulation of the Accounting Department and the Ministry of Economy and Finance – set in the maximum limit of the amount indicated in the Def, but the redetermination of the price it is made by excluding the financial charges functional to the remuneration of the capital contributed by the private investor and the functional charges for the adaptation of the executive project to the prescriptions established by the decree, such as the legislation on safety or environmental compatibility.

The amendment that allocates 7 million for the spot

Meanwhile, there are already plans to finance an advertising campaign with 7 million euros, as proposed by an amendment presented in the Infrastructure Commission in the Chamber by deputies Francesco Battistoni of Forza Italia and Domenico Furgiuele of the League. The proposal provides for the allocation of one million euros per year from 2024 to 2030 for communication campaigns which must be agreed upon by the concessionaire and the metropolitan cities of Messina and Reggio Calabria.
