Brescia and Sondrio to vote: what’s at stake in the 2023 municipal elections

There are 700,000 Lombards called to the polls on Sunday 14 and Monday 15 May. As many as 106 municipalities are involved, including two provincial capitals. Brescia, where the united centre-right will try to snatch leadership of the city from the Lioness from the centre-left which in the first round runs separate from the Five Star Movement e Sondrio where the outgoing mayor seeks reconfirmation and the centre-left will try to snatch leadership of the main city of Valtellina from the centre-right.

Voting will take place over two days: Sunday 14 May from 7 to 23 and Monday 15 May from 7 to 15. In the case of ballots for municipalities with over 15,000 inhabitants, any ballots will be held on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 May at the same times.

Administrative 2023, the vote in Brescia to decide on Del Bono’s successor

Brescia is in first place in this election by number of readers: 206,089. Four candidates supported by 19 lists. Laura Castelletti (current Deputy Mayor acting as Mayor after Del Bono’s resignation in March) supported by the centre-left, Fabio Rolfi, former Lombard Councilor for Agriculture of the Lega, Alessandro Lucà, supported by Movimento 5 Stelle and the Italian Communist Party and Alessandro Maccabelli who drives the civic “La Maddalena”.

Municipal elections 2023, the vote in Sondrio: the outgoing Scaramellini is a candidate again

In Sondrio, on the other hand, there are 33,271 people entitled to vote. There are three candidates competing for the mayor’s seat: the outgoing mayor Marco Scaramellini, an engineer, supported by the centre-right, Simone Del Curto, a pediatrician and anesthetist, supported by the Democratic Party and a centre-left coalition, and Luca Zambon, an engineer, supported by the list that refers to Letizia Moratti. In this case, there are a total of twelve lists in the running and 369 aspiring directors municipal councils for 32 seats.

Administrative 2023, the other municipalities to vote in the province of Milan

For the rest, there are ten administrations with more than 15,000 inhabitants undergoing renewal, concentrated in two provinces: in Milan and in Monza Brianza.

To Arese, a municipality led for ten years by Michela Palestra who in February was elected to the Regional Council on the civic list that supported Pierfrancesco Majorino in the Regionals, the current Deputy Mayor Luca Nuvoli is trying to get elected for the centre-left. The challenge is with Giovanni Congi, supported by Lega and Fratelli d’Italia, and Roberta Tellini, exponent of the alliance formed by Forza Italia and Lombardia Migliore – Letizia Moratti

Three-way challenge also a Bareggio. Linda Colombo, supported by the centre-right, runs for an encore. Her opponents are Lorenzo Zanzottera, exponent of the center-left, and Davide Casorati, supported by three civic lists (Bareggio 2013-Davide Casorati Mayor, I love Bareggio and Bareggio seriously-Reformists with Casorati Mayor).

In Bresso the centre-right mayor Simone Cairo seeks confirmation against Antonio Galliano, supported by the centre-left.

TO Cinisello Balsamo the race is at five. Giacomo Ghilardi, a centre-right exponent, runs for reconfirmation against Luca Ghezzi, supported by a centre-left alliance and Movimento 5 Stelle, Giuseppina Gentile of the Third Pole, Roberto Mastromatteo of the civic list “Our City” and Sergio Agrello of the civic list ” Wake up Italy”.

TO Cologno Monzese, a municipality led by the extraordinary Commissioner following the non-approval of the management report for the 2021 financial year, the challenge is four and the center-right runs divided. Stefano Zanelli is supported by the centre-left coalition and the 5 Star Movement, Giuseppe Di Bari, supported by the Brothers of Italy, Forza Italia, the Unione di centro and Cologno in the heart, Dania Perego of the Lega and Angelo Rocchi, former mayor of the Lega is supported by the civic list “Avanti” and from Us Moderates.

TO Gorgonzola (20,949 voters) the centre-left is also aiming for an encore here with Ilaria Scaccabarozzi, current Deputy Mayor in the administration led by Angelo Stucchi. His opponents are Fabio Iannotta, supported by the centre-right, Antonio Zantonini for the Movimento 5 Stelle and the civic list “Left for an ecological and supportive Gorgonzola” and Matteo Pedercini from the civic list “Progetto Uniti per Fare”.

Municipal elections 2023, the other municipalities to vote in the province of Monza and Brianza

In Brianza, there are four municipalities with more than 15,000 inhabitants called to vote. TO Brugherioafter two terms of centre-left administration under the leadership of Marco Troiano, there are four candidates for the seat of mayor: Damiano Chirico, supported by the centre-left, Roberto Assi, candidate of the centre-right, Olga Sudano, representative of Unione Popolare and Giovanna Borsotti of the civic list “Brugherio Civica”.

Luca Veggian, exponent of the centre-right, seeks reconfirmation a Dear Brianza. His opponent is Fabio Casiraghi, supported by the centre-left.

TO Nova Milanese the mayor to Fabrizio Pagani, supported by the centre-left aims to be re-elected. The other two candidates are Elena Maggi, supported by the centre-right, and Andrea Romano from the civic list “Noi con Andrea Romano Sindaco”.

Also to Seregno the outgoing mayor runs for reconfirmation: Alberto Rossi, supported by the center-left, challenges Giacinto Mariani, former mayor for two terms, supported by the center-right, Luca Colombo of the Movimento 5 Stelle, Tiziano Mariani of Lombardia Migliore – Letizia Moratti and Norberto Riva, exponent by Italexit.
