Boom of anti-Semitic comments against Schlein after his primary victory

Elly Schlein renamed ‘Elly Shloma’, defined as ‘guarantor of international Jewry’, a Jewess or ‘directly related to them’. The victory in the primaries of the Emilian candidate was accompanied by a whole series of comments and references of an anti-Semitic nature published on social networks and reported by the Anti-Semitism Observatory of the Jewish Documentation Center in Milan. “Some users – reads the CDEC report – take up the accusatory myth of ‘international Jewry’, of ‘Ashkenazi Jews and Soros, always linking everything to his paternal Jewish origins to fuel the idea that everything is part of a conspiracy Jewish. One user claims that the Jews, after 2,000 years, are taking their revenge on the Italians who ‘expelled them from Israel, while another claims that they are beginning to understand Hitler'”.

Schlein’s ‘fault’ would precisely be that of having a Jewish father, despite the fact that she herself specified in the electoral campaign that she was not one. The Union of Young Jews of Italy (UGEI) then denounces that this type of content has also been shared by some politicians: Chiara Bonomi, councilor for urban safety of the municipality of Abbiategrasso (Mi) and Nella Corrado, city councilor of Arluno (Mi), who in making a list of Schlein’s ‘defects’ mentioned that she is an ‘Ashkenazi Jew’. A mixture of the classic stylistic features attached to Jews or presumed to be Jews, perhaps by virtue not so much of their religious adherence but due to their family origins: and therefore rich par excellence, cosmopolitans, uprooted people without a homeland, potential traitors to the nation.

As the CDEC recalls, the Jewish conspiracy theory became the object of great popularity in the first decades of the twentieth century, with the publication of Protocols of the Elders of Zion: a pamphlet compiled by the Russian secret police which contains totally false reports and purports to reveal the details of an alleged international conspiracy of Jews aimed at progressive conquest and world domination. In recent years, the constant references to the financier (or ‘usurer’, yet another style) George Soros follow the trail of this narrative, ancient but always in step with the times.
