Berlusconi speaks: “Now I renew Forza Italia. Renzi? Choose our field”

Silvio Berlusconi has come back to life. He returned home on Friday, after a delicate 45-day hospitalization, and today on Corriere della Sera he returns to the political scene with an interview in which he talks about his experience at San Raffaele and above all his plans for Forza Italia, a “true Christian and liberal centre”, he says, “an essential part of the government coalition”.

He says he’s better, that he still has to recover his strength but that it’s only a matter of time. “It was hard, but I’ve always been hopeful. As in other difficult moments, I entrusted myself to the help of Heaven and the professionalism of the doctors and health personnel of San Raffaele, whom I will never stop thanking”, said the Cav., who has experienced more than one health vicissitudes. But this time she was with him Martha Fascina, “who hasn’t left me even for a minute”, she says: “She surpassed herself, she stood by me with unparalleled care and dedication, which can only be explained by the great love that binds us”. Not only Marta, Berlusconi also thanks his family and those from the political world and not only who have sent him messages of encouragement, “a sincere affection, at times even touching”.

The Cav. not even spared on the political level. He says that relations with the allies are excellent, that he will continue to lead Forza Italia and that he will do so by focusing on the space in the center vacated by the Democratic Party and the Third Pole. Send Renzi a message: “He often says the right things, but until he draws the political consequences from them, choosing our half of the pitch, we can’t go beyond occasional convergences in Parliament”.

“Giorgia Meloni and Matteo Salvini have been close to me in recent weeks as true friends, proving the fact that the relationship between us is not only political, but is also made up of a deep personal bond”, he tells the Courier. Then he claims the values ​​of Forza Italia: “We are the only truly liberal, Christian, guarantor, pro-European, Atlanticist. We are the only Italian expression of the great center of European politics, the People’s Party”. For this reason, he adds during the interview, “with the Democratic Party increasingly shifted to the left and the decline of the so-called Third Pole, which died before it was even born, the space in the center widens and Forza Italia oversees it coherently“.

Speaking again of his party, crossed by many internal tensions, the Cav. he admits he wants to make some changes: “The history of Forza Italia is one of continuous renewal, from 1994 to today. Forza Italia was born not only to prevent the Communists from taking over the government of the nation, but also to profoundly renew the policy. But for renewal to be credible we must first of all renew ourselves. We have always done it and we will continue to do it, obviously without scrapping anyone”. In this path, his role will remain central:”Naturally, I will continue to fully exercise, as I have always done, my responsibilities as founder and leader of Forza Italia“.
