Yesterday’s vote of confidence on the decree does not solve Ilva’s industrial problem, but offers legal coverage to all sites of national strategic interest. There is another case in many respects identical to that of Taranto: the petrochemical center of Priolo in Sicily. Not only the Isab plant, already in the balance for Russian ownership, but the entire Syracuse complex which includes other large industries is put at risk by the stoppage imposed by the Syracuse prosecutor’s office on the consortium purifier. It is called Ias (Siracusan water industry), and is owned by the Sicily region through a 56 percent share of Asi Siracusa (in liquidation), while the other shareholders are the municipalities of Priolo and Melilli and the companies Sonatrach, Isab, Sasol and Eni Versalis. But it is currently in the hands of a court-appointed judicial administrator.
