The minister: your proposal ahead of mine, indicated seven very important matters. I will use the requested method

from Simon Brandolini

The minister Calderoli throws a gauntlet at Vincenzo De Luca. From Bergamo he says: «Despite the controversy over differentiated autonomy in the South, a proposal could come from the Campania Region. There was a proposal from Vincenzo De Luca which is far ahead of any of my proposals». He continues: “I have studied the papers of all the Regions and I have seen that some are ahead of me, especially in the South, so I intend to use the method requested by them as a proposal at the national level”. And again: «I put the Lep as a requirement and the overcoming of the historical expenditure with standard costs and needs, and he instead went further, indicating seven very important and heavy subjects».

The document

What is the Northern League minister referring to who wants to speed up differentiated autonomy? In 2019, the regional council approved a document (also passed to the regional council to keep up with the push of Veneto, Lombardy and Emilia Romagna) precisely on autonomy. In a subsequent letter to the then (always Northern League) minister Erika Stefani, De Luca also optioned the subjects: Protection and safety at work; technical and vocational education; Business internationalization; Research and innovation; Territorial government; Environment; Infrastructure and public works; Health protection.

Times

Calderoli, in practice, challenges precisely that proposal. But the times, for the government allies, must be longer and must go hand in hand, this is what Prime Minister Meloni wants, with the reform of presidentialism. Well, the minister puts his foot down: «Autonomy cannot be slowed down by other reforms planned by the government». And he concludes: «The importance of the reforms they care about, i.e. presidentialism and Roma Capitale, was explained to us. It’s perfectly fine for me that the times and the path are parallel, provided that the speed is the one I go at, not that of the others».
