Two thousand seven hundred years ago, our first poet to have picked up a pen, Hesiod, told of how Aphrodite, goddess of beauty, love and the generation of life, was born from the foam of the sea. The chemistry that gave rise to the most versatile and ubiquitous components of life on earth, proteins, could actually be derived from the foam of the sea, and precisely from the droplets released on the shoreline and vaporized into the air.
