The most coveted awards ceremony in the world: the victory goes to three scientists for their studies on the possibility of synthesizing complex substances through small particles

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was assigned to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless “For the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry”. Click chemistry can be translated as “snap chemistry”, and is a philosophical branch of chemistry known thanks to Sharpless himself. Theorizes the possibility of quickly and easily synthesizing complex substances by joining smaller molecules.

There were three rumored candidates on the list: Zhenan Bao, Bonnie L. Bassler along with E. Peter Greenberg and Daniel G. Nocera.

Bao is a professor of chemical engineering at Stenford University, specializes in study of organic semiconductors which are the foundation for the creation of transistor, which in turn are the key element in the construction of the chips. Bao could be awarded the prize for “the development of new biomimetic applications of organic and polymeric electronic materials, such as flexible ‘electronic skin'”. The Americans Bassler and Greenbergrespectively molecular biologist and microbiologist, are known to have discovered the quorum sensinga chemical communication system that allows bacteria to exchange information. And the third name was the chemist Nocera, from the United States. The Harvard University professor studied an already known mechanism for energy transfer – the Proton-coupled electron transfer – to enhance the possibility of exploiting it for artificial photosynthesis and fuels that run on solar energy.

Yesterday, however, the awarding of the prize for physics to Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger, awarded the Nobel for “their experiments withentanglement of photons, which made it possible to establish the violation of Bell’s inequalities and pioneering work in quantum-related information science. “The three scientists unveiled the potential that can derive from the study of particles entangled (related), including telecommunications, both through terrestrial systems and through stellar technologies.
