"Animal", the new novel by Giuseppe Nibali: the presentation in Florence

Giuseppe is a young man who works for advertising. born in Sicily but then lived in Bologna, the city from which - in practice - his father Sergio escaped, now confined to bed after a bad accident that nailed half of him to the hospital. at that moment that Giuseppe returns from Bologna to Sicily, his native land. The story remains a prisoner, almost stalled, in Giardini Naxos where Giuseppe - who had not seen his parent for years - is practically facing the stalemate that temporality with its consequences.

"Animal" (ItaloSvevo editions, 152 pages) - the novel written by Giuseppe Nibali which is presented on Friday 28 October at 6.30 pm at the Brac bookshop in Florence (Via dei Vagellai 18r) by Bernardo Pacini - the debut novel of the very young Sicilian writer which has the form of a long story. And that gives voice - ironically - to the protagonist who tells the story and who is called Giuseppe as the author (even if it is specified that it is not autobiographical). The book is a reflection above all on the title, on the human being who - net of the readings - always remains an animal. In this case "a wounded animal who is rescued, always uncertain between escape and aggression".

In the novel there are digressions on the world of the Net (the videos used to annihilate and water down reality) and three short stories, obviously a very congenial form to the author. There is above all a Sicily - background - mythological, the one that comes directly from Horcinus Orca by Stefano D'Arrigo (one of the three books cited by the author in the book) as well as a world of family relationships almost shattered by animals (a theme, however, addressed by the three wonderful novels, signed by another Sicilian sadly forgotten: Carmelo Samon). A novel, that of Nibali, which is a starting point for reflection on the dynamics (also) of blood ties.
