The head of the Albanian government told of a strange operation managed by the secret services to get doses to his country (in defiance of the Pfizer contract). No comment from the foreign minister

Minister Di Maio and I carried out a vaccine smuggling operation together“The Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama yesterday he spoke in this way at a public event in Bergamo. Telling a story that would involve Italy and Albania and that would go back to the beginning of 2021. According to Rama’s story, at the beginning of January of that year the Italian Foreign Minister would have worked to get a certain quantity of doses to Tirana of anticovid vaccine, in defiance of the Pzifer contract which prevented Italy from redistributing its doses abroad. More specifically, Rama said: “We did it through an operation with the secret services. An incredible thing, the foreign minister of Italy and the prime minister of Albania passing some contraband to save people. If I am an Albanian-Italian, Di Maio is a Neapolitan-Albanian, we have done a smuggling operation together. What Italian or Albanian are you, if you are always in line with the law? “.

On the matter, which allegedly sees the Farnesina involved in a violation of the contract for the supply of anticovid vaccines stipulated with Pfizer, no official comments have arrived from the Italian side. Luigi Di Maio was also present at yesterday’s event, organized by the Cultura Italiae association, but on the sidelines he preferred not to make statements. The Albanian premier spoke to him from the stage: “Now you are a free man”, referring to the fact that his mandate is about to expire. Rama also said that at the beginning the holder of the Farnesina had opposed the Albanian request as the violation of the contract would have been considered “very serious”. But he also added: “We did this very serious thing“.

Albania in January 2021 started its anticovid vaccination campaign a few weeks ahead of schedule. 1000 doses arrived in the country from an unspecified “European country” to initiate the immunization of health personnel. They were in all likelihood the result of the “smuggling” of which the Albanian premier speaks today.
