I would bet that the next one doesn’t lose it in the direction of Italia viva or Action or Third pole … », said the leader of IV at the press conference. «It is enough to look at what is happening in the EU Parliament to understand that there is a dynamic within the Democratic Party that I respect and which is objective. It is clear that there will be other arrivals ».

With the farewell of Borghi, the dem are left with one man less in the Foreign Affairs Commission and, above all, at Copasir. The Committee for the Order and Security of the Republic is led by Lorenzo Guerini, another leading exponent of the Democratic Party. And according to parliamentary sources, Borghi’s malaise began just when the party decided not to fully support his run for the presidency. Then, with the arrival of Elly Schlein at the Nazarene, things would have precipitated, up to the decision to join Renzian ranks.

What happened provoked the reaction of the dem. The group leader Francesco Boccia says he is “disappointed” from his former seat neighbor in the Senate and invites him to resign from Copasir “because in bodies like that one represents a party and not in a personal capacity”. But in the Democratic Party there is also the awareness that, with regulations in hand, no one can prevent the senator from keeping his posts. «Nothing changes for Copasir. The law says that there must be five members of the majority and five of the opposition and, from this point of view, everything is in order», explains the president of the Committee, Lorenzo Guerini.

The only group in the Senate of Italia viva, however, for now it will not be done. The attempt appears to be that of working to aggregate the reformists. With Borghi’s arrival, however, the political significance does not concern only the Democratic Party but also Carlo Calenda which is seen to be outnumbered in Parliament by Italia Viva.
