A blank called Elly Schlein

A blank called Elly Schlein

The report given yesterday by Elly Schlein to the national leadership of the Democratic Party offers a photograph useful for reasoning about the state of health of the most important opposition party. The management had to be an opportunity to clarify things, to indicate a strategy, to outline a trajectory, to implement a vigorous vision of the future. Once again, however, faced with the ambitious attempt to explain itself, Schlein presented herself in front of her interlocutors in a slime version. Slime, as all parents know who spend substantial fortunes in neighborhood newsstands on Saturday mornings without realizing it, is a gelatinous, viscous substance that slips away, does not adhere to surfaces and tends to have no shape. Elly Slime, in her long argument yesterday, offered the same impression. Empty talks. Abstract concepts. Nonsense words. Zero concreteness. However, the ambiguous social confusion fielded by the leader of the Democratic Party does not make her a champion of anti-politics but makes her the national region of non-politics. Anti-politics, as anyone who has followed the 5 Star Movement in recent years has easily recorded, had a precise agenda, had defined objectives, had crystalline projects. Detestable but ambitious projects that coincided with a precise idea of Italy. The Italy that Elly Schlein dreams of, on the other hand, is an a-political Italy, without fire, empty, without direction, trapped in the agenda of nonsense, and it is an Italy perfectly and dramatically summarized yesterday by the secretary with a formula to which let’s imagine the close circle of the leader of the Democratic Party will have worked day and night: “We dream of a new industrial plan to stand tall in transitions”. The Italy dreamed of by Schlein is, at best, an Italy that exists as a projection of the shadows cast by Meloni and Salvini. In the worst case, however, it is an Italy that is looking for a way like any other to decline the only three concrete concepts, so to speak, enunciated by the leader of the Democratic Party with the same empathy contained in an algorithm: more work, more social justice, more ecological conversion.
