From 12 to 18 weekly trips between Verona, in Veneto to Giovinazzo, in Puglia. Fs strengthens the offer of freight trains that connect Quadrante Europe and Southern Italy, for a 50% increase in logistics activities between Veneto and the Apulian terminal. The new freight train program that started on Monday 17 October was presented as part of Green Logistics Export, a trade fair that brings together operators and players in logistics in Padua.

1,200 tons of CO2 less

The upgrading of freight trains will make it possible to replace approximately 27,500 intermodal transport units (ITUs) per year including semi-trailers, swap bodies, tank containers and maritime containers, which are stolen from the road, saving over 1,200 tons of CO2 per year. The FS Italiane Logistics Center, led by the CEO of Mercitalia Logistics Gianpiero Strisciuglio, aims to double rail freight traffic in ten years. The new services are characterized by the highest levels of performance currently permitted by the national railway network, with a capacity of 1600 tons, a length of 550 meters and a gauge aligned with the highest European standard (P400), explains Fs in a note. The 50% increase in freight train frequencies was also achieved thanks to the performance offered by Mercitalia Rail, which developed the traction service using both locomotives and wagons of the latest generation.
