Marguerite Stern she had already given much to the feminist cause, having been one of the three women imprisoned for a month in Tunisia for having asked, topless, for the release of Amina Sboui, a young Tunisian from the movement. She tells the World that the Comité Laïcité République had invited Stern to speak in Nantes on the occasion of a “day of support for Afghan and Iranian women”, initially scheduled for Saturday 15 April at the castle of the Dukes of Brittany, and on “feminism after #MeToo”. All under the slogan “woman, life, freedom”, the cry of protest in Iran. But Stern was eventually notified that her participation had been canceled due to security concerns. “We’ve had messages asking people to come with rotten eggs and baseball bats to ‘break some knees’ and our poster has been displayed with a knife on it, so we’ve gathered our council and made this decision,” explains Gilbert Abergel , the president of the Committee. Accusations of Islamophobia and transphobia, made by internet users acting under pseudonyms, have targeted the association and Stern.
