With the Cicloappennina those who pedal plant trees

Next 18 June, in L’Aquila, people will cycle to plant trees. This is the goal of CicloAppennina, a non-competitive race that symbolically links the kilometers traveled by the participants to the production of trees to reforest the country. The event, promoted by Misura with Legambiente, ViviAppennino and Appennino Bike Tour, is open to everyone and is organized in collaboration with RCS Sport and Events, the same organizer of the Giro d’Italia. The ride will be articulated on a circular route of 40 and 70 kmwhich follows a section of the route of the Ciclovia dell’Appennino, the longest Italian cycle tourfor which in recent years Misura has created charging stations for electric bikes and mini workshops for repairing bikes in the 44 stopover countries, as well as an excursion and tourist App.

The route will wind along paved roads with low traffic intensity, which lead to some of the most beautiful towns in Abruzzo, surrounded by three parks: Gran Sasso, Sirente Velino and Maiella. At the start of the CicloApennine each participant will be provided with cardboard “leaves”, which they will have to deposit in special containers along the route. Each leaf corresponds to a number of trees that will be born in Italy. The more kilometers traveled, by the more people, the greater the total number of leaves, and therefore trees, that Misura undertakes to sow. To participate, simply register on the website dedicated to the event.

The event was presented today in Rome during a press conference and it is sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment, the Abruzzo Region, the Municipality of L’Aquila and the Gran Sasso Monti della Laga, Maiella and Sirente Velino Parks. Thanks to CicloAppennina, seed orchards will be planted with the scientific support of Veneto Agriculture, the Botanical Garden of Rome, La Sapienza University and the germplasm bank of the Maiella Park.

“It is not the first time that we have dealt with woods: three years ago, we planted about 14,000 trees in various regions of Italy. This time we have chosen to go, literally, to the root: to get to absorb the greatest amount I say₂ through the planting of trees, we need to have native varieties, with a rich genetic heritage,” he said Massimo Crippa, Commercial Director of Misura. “The CycloApennine – he declares George ZampettiGeneral Manager of Legambiente – perfectly combines three themes that are very important to us: cycling tourism as the key to rediscovering the internal areas of the country, and to bringing out all the extraordinary potential, environmental, cultural but also economic and employment that this form of tourism can bring”.

The non-competitive race will be preceded, the day before, by a ceremony for the planting of rare plants from the L’Aquila area, supplied by the germplasm bank of the Majella National Park. Also on Saturday 17 June, it will be open the Welcome Village in the Villa Comunale area of ​​L’Aquila, with stands from the Municipality of L’Aquila and the Abruzzo region, from the three parks involved (Majella, Gran Sasso and Sirente-Velino), of the Apennine and Misura cycle path. The city bike ride will also start from here and will travel the streets of L’Aquila on Saturday afternoon. In the Village, the participants will be able to collect the goodie bag containing a t-shirt and a water bottle with the image of the CicloApennine and Misura products.

The Apennine Cycle Path is the longest cycle tour in Italy: 3100 km from Liguria to Sicily, 14 regions, 26 protected areas, more than 300 municipalities crossed and 44 stage municipalities in which Misura has created as many rest and cycle stations workshop, with columns for recharging e-bikes.
