Who will be the minister who will rewrite the ecological transition imagined by FdI

What Ecological Transition comes out of the polls? And who can you be the next owner of the Mite? Among the many questions of the day after the vote he will bring Giorgia Meloni at Palazzo Chigi, there are also those concerning the environment and the climate emergency.

The position of Brothers of Italy had emerged clearly in the answers to the 16 questions that Green & Blue had addressed the main coalitions during the electoral campaign, and which today, with FdI as the first party with over 26% of the votes, we are proposing again. The leader Meloni had preferred that it was the answer Nicola ProcacciniMEP and environment manager of Fratelli d’Italia.

Elections 2022, the 16 Brothers of Italy proposals for the ecological transition

According to Procaccini, the priorities are the updating of the National Climate Change Adaptation Planstopped at the pole for too long, the increase in the short termextraction of natural gas from national fieldsto make oneself less dependent on the import of gas from abroad, more generally national energy independence, “which is achieved through renewablesbut in the short term also through the fossil sources“.

For this reason, according to FdI “the question of European targets on CO emissions2. Cultivating the goal of eliminating them too quickly with a certain fanaticism, disregarding geopolitical aspects or the evolution of technologies, can have catastrophic consequences on the social and economic level. “How to say, according to Fratelli d’Italia: it is useless that ours The country makes sacrifices to reduce its “few” emissions if the big polluters, such as China, do not do the same.

Then there is the chapter National Recovery and Resilience Plan:

“We think the Pnrr needs to be revised, because it was conceived in geopolitical times that are very different from the current ones. And we believe that certain ideological drifts, quite frequent in Brussels, must be avoided in order to protect the productive sectors most exposed to a short-sighted and hasty energy transition “.

And then the question becomes: who will it be the minister or minister who will translate the environmental program of the first Italian party into reality? Roberto Cingolani, outgoing minister of Ecology Transition, has often been mentioned in recent weeks as a future member of a Meloni-led government. Cingolani has always publicly denied that he wants to continue his experience as a minister. And he also did it privately, with his closest collaborators and with some government colleagues, trusting that he can’t wait to go back to being a scientist-manager. For his stay at the Mite, he had instead spent repeatedly, during the electoral campaign, the leader of the League Matteo Salvini. Giorgia Meloni has only once expressed public appreciation for the former director of the Italian Institute of Technology, but has often specified that her government will not be a continuation of the Draghi one: therefore none of the current ministers should be part of the team led by first female premier. Yet there would have been a phone call between Meloni and Cingolani in which the leader of FdI actually probed the minister about her willingness to stay in her place. Also on that occasion Cingolani would have confirmed that he wanted to return to his work as a scientist. All the more reason, one wonders if there was to be handled by the PNRR, which instead he considers his “mission accomplished”.

Beyond the questions of principle (“no continuity with the Draghi government”), the box of the Mite is among those that worry Meloni the most. Together with the budget law to be approved in a hurry, the energy issue, with the risks of a cold winter and skyrocketing bills for millions of Italians, it represents the main and most urgent node for the new government. Hence the temptation to leave Cingolani in his place, who dealt with these dossiers for a year and a half.

However, there are those who, and this is the case of some environmental associations, hopes for a politician in the Mite: given the delicacy of the choices to be made, which have repercussions on the economy, foreign policy and the environment, an assumption is needed. of political responsibility. And within Brothers of Italy those who exposed themselves more on environmental and energy issues were Fabio Rampelli And Guido Crosetto. The first more ideological (a long militancy on the right, from the Youth Front to the Italian Social Movement), the second more pragmatic, due to its connections with the business world.

To the chair of Minister for Ecological Transition exponents of the Leaguesuch as the current Undersecretary of the Mite Vannia Gava. But with 8.9% collected in the polls, it is difficult for Via Bellerio to impose a name of its own for a crucial department, even from the point of view of the portfolio: the Ministry of Ecological Transition has the highest expenditure chapter within of the NRP, with 68 billion euros. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility follows, with 50 billion, which the Northern League deputy aspired to, before the collapse of the Carroccio Edoardo Rixi.

With three times the votes, the Brothers of Italy has billions of good reasons to keep the two departments that are fundamental for the country’s transition towards a zero-emission future.
