Zane Weir wins the gold medal garlic Europeans indoor of Istanbul 2023 Athletics. The blue of shot putwhich unleashed improving twice the Italian record in the hall (first 21.89, then 22.06 meters) beat Czech Tomas Stanek and Ukrainian Roman Kokoshko.

Weir, born in 1995, a South African naturalized Italian, also achieved the best European performance of the season and the second blue in history over 22 meters after Alessandro Andrei (22.91 outdoors). For Italy the first gold in the shot put in 27 years: was missing from Paolo Dal Soglio’s victory at the European Indoor Championships in Stockholm in 1996. Dal Soglio is Weir’s master. It is also the 100th medal for Italy in the indoor continental event.

The other blue in the race, Leonardo Fabbriwith six voids out of six he closed his final in eighth place.
