He was 43 years old and was the former midfielder of the Austrian national team (he had Turkish origins). was gunned down in the middle of a street in Vienna, in what at first seemed to everyone a fight between friends in a café. The tragedy occurred on the morning of Wednesday 8 February, in the suburb of Simmering. Immediately identified the killer, Orhan. It is a 46-year-old entrepreneur linked to the world of sport, who then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. The rescue efforts were useless to save the two victims. Both died instantly and the images of their bodies lying on the street, in the middle of a pool of blood, shocked Austria.

From the first reconstructions of the police, it emerged that Volkan and Orhan knew each other well and they were longtime friends, but the motive is not yet clear. Although according to Austrian media rumors, jealousy would have been the basis of the murder. In the mid-1990s Kahraman was considered one of the emerging talents of Austrian football, so much so that he moved to the Netherlands at the age of 17 to wear the shirt of Feyenoord. However, his career has been beyond expectations: Holland, Austria, Turkey and Greece, these are the championships in which the 43-year-old played. In 2003, at the time of Salzburg, he challenged (and eliminated) Udinese in the UEFA Cup. He made three appearances for Austria and stopped playing after some experiences in the lower divisions. He started coaching and also embarked on a political career, running in 2017 for the parliamentary elections in the ranks of the People’s Party.
