«Valvola», open microphone for poets and musicians at Mamamu

Valve is a monthly appointment: an open microphone where the encounter between the other can come to life and have expression. Born in 2021 and passed through the Ex Asilo Filangieri (Naples), from 2023 it comes to life only in an itinerant form: to mix and transfer the participants, the places, the public spaces and the neighborhoods where it makes its home. No rules: the only ingredients are presence and the desire to share. In each appointment, a list of readers drawn up at the beginning of the evening and a crucial mix of genres as a flying carpet for unique experiences of immersion in the written word.

Valve is a space where everyone’s voice can move freely – reading one’s own writings or those of others, suggesting readings and itineraries, sharing experiences and thoughts, experiences and visions, stories, tales, songs; accompanied by a tool, an image, a drawing. From the body, from the voice. Valve designed to give space and time to expression, to speak, to exchange, to meet, to listen, to experiment, to improvise, to invent. A receptive and multiple reading space on the edge of which one can discuss, entertain, confront and continue the exploration, internal and external and give a third time to dialogue and a new listening.

Martina Chiara (writer, poet and actress), invented it. Since 2023 also curated and produced by Diana Marrone (journalist, curator and creator of the literary fanzine and readers’ club Slow Words People and Stories from this World) who as a participant in the 2021 meetings decided to join Martina to continue to nurture the magic of the hours spent with literature, writing for the cinema and for the theatre, one’s own pages or one’s songs. After the end of the reading, Martina Chiara and Diana Marrone will play ideal music for conversation and dance and still gem Valve’s way until the next stage.
