With ‘The land of reality’, Tribunali138/Spazi della Fotografia reopens to the public, the studio idea of Luciano Ferrara, a reporter and photographer who has made his classic Neapolitan home a cultural pole, now transforming it into a permanent exhibition.

In the heart of via Tribunali, between the Duomo and Forcella, Tribunali138 has for many years been the site of experiments, workshops in progress, exhibitions, happenings, concerts. In its new guise, the space is open to the public, from Monday to Friday, proposing itself with its original offer as a new indispensable stage in the experience of visiting Naples: those who are welcomed will in fact be able to get to know the photographic work of the landlord/reporter and his career spanning 50 years, with the possibility of purchasing the works that make up the Ferrara Archive, a collection in progress since 1970.

And precisely from the images of the protest movements of those years (the first militant manifesto made in 1974) we move on to those of the 1980 earthquake and the post-earthquake reconstruction, to then ideally set off with the author from Naples to the world, in conflict zones, with reports from Lebanon, the occupied territories and the Gulf War. And finally returning to Stromboli, to Procida.

Among the most loved photographs of Ferrara is the shot of July 5, 1984 at the San Paolo stadium, when Diego Armando Maradona climbed the stairs to the changing rooms for the first time and met his audience. From 2016 the image created in the licorice fields of Rossano Calabro; going backwards, here is Secondigliano (1991), the Dolls’ Hospital (1989), the Catacombs of San Pietro ad Aram (1988). And still the frames of Femminielli, a work that started in the 80s and reached Res e bis. The dualism of the Femminiellis (Rome 2018). The Naples of the avant-garde, that of Lucio Amelio and Graziella Lonardi Buontempo, could not be missing from Ferrara, with artists such as Joseph Beuys, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring as protagonists. Tribunali138 also holds the photographs of the Viviani archive, donated by the family to Ferrara, which then rearranged it. Among the curiosities also works by Giorgio Sommer, the best known landscape photographer, Fabrizio Lombardi, Sergio Fermariello; Joseph Beuys, Stelio Maria Martini, Josef Koudelka, Riccardo Dalisi, Leonardo Cammarano, Armando De Lisio, and the mosaics by Sofia Ferraioli.

It will also be possible to consult the vast library (over 2000 volumes) of essays, magazines, theoretical texts on the visual arts and photography. An open space not only for enthusiasts but also for schools. The inauguration sees guest Ivana Muscolo, pianist. Concert curated by Ciro Costabile. And tastings with wines produced from a grape that grows on two lands confiscated from organized crime in Casal di Principe, Sofia extra virgin olive oil from Cilento and Luigi D’Alessio’s Panacea bread.
