After a quiet start, at km 70 the first Hors Categorie climb begins, the Col de Soudet (15.2km at 7.2%). After a long descent and a flat section, there is a short section at km 124.8 Col d’Ichere, only 4.2 km long, but will still have an average gradient of 7%. The descent will also be much shorter and will take the runners to the foot of the Col de Marie Blanque.

The most important ascent of the day, with bonus seconds at the summit, measures 7.7 kilometers with an average gradient of 8.6%. The last 4 km are all above 10%. From here to the finish there will be only 18 km, of which the first 11 will be downhill. The last 7 kilometres, on the other hand, will all be on a slight slope to climb and will take the group to Laruns, for the second time the stage arrival point in the Tour. Slovenian riders have always won: Roglic in 2018 and, as mentioned, Pogacar in 2020.
