Tour de France, maxi-fall in the group: stage temporarily neutralised

MORZINE – Just 6 km of racing and the alpine stage from Annemasse to Morzine was immediately stopped by a group mega-fall, with around thirty riders involved. The use of at least two of the three ambulances in the race forced the management to temporarily stop the stage and to stop all the riders at the foot of the first climb of the day, the Col de Saxel. The most battered are Pedrero and Petit.

Vingegaard and Pogacar come out without damage, even if the yellow jersey is forced to step on the ground. Petit leaves again, Pedrero instead is loaded on a stretcher and taken to the hospital. Martinez and Pidcock (Ineos) are also quite sore. The race had just started and the first escape attempts were starting to form when, in a bend, a Lotto rider slipped, setting off a chain reaction.
